Daughter of Winter and Twilight takes place 14 years after the end of Queen and Coin of Whispers and follows Emri, the daughter of Queens Lia and Xania of Edar.

Emri finds herself discovering family secrets while also trying to battle against Lady Winter, whom everyone thought was just a myth. It is a story for lovers of fantasy but also for those who love a book that features characters who are LGBTQ. Emri’s journey may be intended to be the highlight of the plot, however the characters we meet along the way really add a new and exciting dynamic to the world which the author has created.

Just when I thought I couldn’t love Queen of Coin and Whispers more, Corcoran blew me away with Daughter of Winter and Twilight. The book really draws on the close-knit bond that Emri’s mothers share and shows the continued supportive yet protective nature that they have for each other.

Emri herself is headstrong and fearless and doesn’t let anything or anyone stop her. She handles difficult situations with such grace.  As much as the novel is character driven, the plot is hugely important to how the story unfolds. It features romance, eccentric family dynamics, old secrets, intrigue and of course gods and magic!

This is an incredible novel that reminded me of books like Twin Crowns by Catherine Doyle and Katherine Webber and The Bone Season series by Samantha Shannon.

It is a book that will stay with me for a long time and I highly recommend it.
